Ragusa IblaRAGUSA

Ragusa is Italy’s southernmost provincial capital and the newest provincial capital in Sicily. Set over 500 meters above sea level it has over 71,750 inhabitants.
Ragusa has ancient origins and was built on the ruins of the Sicilian city of Hybla Heraia, founded in the year 1350 b.C. The ancient city, nestled on a hill at a height of approximately 300 meters, had continuous contact with the Greeks.
The city’s modern part is divided in two by a valley and joined by three bridges: ponte vecchio, ponte nuovo (1937) and ponte nuovissimo (1964).
Ragusa Ibla and Ragusa center are built out of soft limestone, hard and with asphaltic stone, and have been declared a UNESCO world heritage.
The scenery, the tradition, the sea and the history make it a sought-after and fascinating itinerary for vacation or study.
A few kilometers south of Ragusa we find Marina di Ragusa, which was once the ancient town of Mazzarelli (an Arab name meaning “small village”). It’s a great holiday resort with wide beaches of golden sand, excellent accommodation and recreation facilities, modern clubs and a tourist port.
Today the village is an important reference point for those who wish to have a pleasant vacation with friends or family.
